Issue #27 (Dirtsat, Terraseed, Subsea Cloud)
Scaling Rooftop Farming / Vegan Nutrition / Subsea Data Centers
Featured Companies
Dirtsat
DirtSat is building an IoT-enabled network of urban rooftop farms, empowering smart cities to accelerate climate resilience goals and food security. They help commercial real estate (CRE) at the building level and governments at the city level to target, measure, and reframe their sustainability footprint in climate and food susceptible neighborhoods. Using geospatial intelligence, IoT, and predictive analytics, their PaaS offers an end-to-end solution that catalyzes energy efficiency upgrades, decreases reliance on fossil fuel supply chain models, and minimizes heat island effects. They have completed PoCs with urban rooftop farm operations in San Francisco and New York City in 2021. Dirtsat also recently became a part of Greentown Labs.

Terraseed
Every year, it is estimated that the US supplement industry kills 24 billion animals and creates 1.8 billion plastic pill bottles. Terraseed works to change that through vegan dietary supplements that swap animal ingredients for ethical and sustainably-sourced ingredients that are packaged in the first fully biodegradable pill bottle. Terraseed recently joined the Techstars Boulder Accelerator’s 2021 class. Terraseed is also running an equity crowdfunding campaign in Wefunder.

Subsea Cloud
Subsea Cloud is a U.S based company that places data centers subsea. In doing so, they estimate that typical power consumption and carbon emissions are reduced by 40% and latency by up to 98%. They have depth tested a small scale pod to 3000 meters. Their goal is to provide modular data centers with geographic flexibility that can start to be deployed in 2022. They are measuring their carbon offset potential with Gold Standard.
