Issue #37: (We’re back!) Cell-based Pork / Low-CapEx DAC / Solar Powered Generators
Novel Farms’ world’s first cruelty-free & marbled pork loin / Parallel Carbon’s Direct Air Capture / Amped Innovation makes sustainable power solutions for emerging markets
ClimateRaise is a newsletter for our network that showcases early-stage climate startups led by women, non-binary and gender non-conforming founders, and connects them with climate ecosystem partners.
The newsletter is short and to the point. We want to provide you with useful information, not flood your inbox with yet another lengthy publication.
How it works:
🔎 We find vetted, women-led climate startups.
📝 Our biweekly newsletter then highlights a diverse selection of those startups.
🔗 We give the opportunity to investors, fellow founders and ecosystem partners to request 1:1 introductions to the featured founders.

Novel Farms
Novel Farms is a cultivated meat company dedicated to producing whole muscle cuts of meat using proprietary tissue engineering technology. Their mission is to bring culinary delicacies into the future of food, starting with conventional pork followed by Iberian pork, one the most sought-after and exquisite meats in the world.
Novel Farms successfully cultivated the world’s first cruelty-free pork loin that displays the marbling and texture of a real muscle cut (TechCrunch) using their unique scaffolding platform. It is less costly than comparable structuring technologies and will also allow them to reduce the cost of culturing media, providing a clear path for the commercialization of their products at price parity. Last year, they were awarded the federal grant SBIR phase I and were selected as semi-finalist in the XPRIZE Feed the Next Billion global competition.

Amped Innovation
Amped Innovation is a solar hardware company building sustainable power solutions for the 1.5 billion people in emerging markets who don’t have access to reliable electricity. Today, their only option is to use dirty fossil fuel generators. Amped offers a solar alternative that competes with fuel generators on both price and performance. Every Amped solar generator saves over 5 tons of CO2 emissions each year. It’s heat-proof, dust-proof, and rugged, designed for powering economies.
Amped has sold over 130K smaller off-grid solar products in 23 countries in Africa and Southeast Asia, and has earned over $11 million in cumulative revenue to date. They are backed by Engie and Schneider Electric.

Parallel Carbon
Parallel Carbon vision is to offer the world’s lowest-capex DAC process to unlock gigaton scale deployment, unconstrained by grid decarbonization. The team is developing an affordable and scalable direct air capture (DAC) process to permanently capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, relying only on wind, sunshine, and abundant minerals. They combine a nascent version of DAC based on passive, ambient mineral carbonation paired with an electrochemical process. By leveraging well-developed supply chains, inexpensive equipment, and process integration, Parallel Carbon’s DAC aims to scale while producing high-quality carbon removal credits through permanent CO2 storage. The company is a XPrize top 60 and spun out of Deep Science Ventures.

Company Asks: Parallel Carbon is hiring a Head of Commercialization, and would love to chat with folks with a process or chemical engineering background with experience scaling tech from pilot to commercial scale. They would love to hear from more CO2 offtake partners and CDR credit pre-purchasers.
