Bluemethane
#️⃣Electricity, Water, Methane, Climate Risks
Bluemethane develops technology to capture methane from water, as a new source of data, power and revenue for the asset owner. Their technology enables to permanently remove methane from water, reduce global warming and support the energy transition by unlocking a new source of bioenergy. They are starting to deploy their technology in hydropower plants and wastewater treatment, and will scale to non-hydropower reservoirs, rice cultivation and ultimately, natural bodies of water.
The company has various energy and water utility partners to support their technology optimization all the way to commercialization, including Shema Power Lake Kivu in Rwanda where they are deploying their proof of concept in Q3 2023. They just started the Imagine H20 program - the global leading accelerator for water focused startups. They are working with and endorsed by the Innovation Lab for Climate Finance to develop the first ever methane-capture-as-a-service, and are developing a new carbon offset methodology that is relevant to capture from reservoirs.
