Welcome to our new subscribers! ClimateRaise is a newsletter for our network that showcases early-stage climate startups led by women founders, and connects them with climate ecosystem partners. The newsletter is short and to the point. We want to provide you with useful information, not flood your inbox with yet another lengthy publication.
How it works:
🔎 We find great, vetted, women-led climate startups.
📝 Our biweekly newsletter then highlights a diverse selection of those startups, and gives you the opportunity to opt-in for 1:1 introductions to the featured founders.
🔗 We’ll get opt in and then connect you with those founders ASAP!
How we define climate startups:
We’ll be featuring companies that: (1) mitigate the causes of climate change by reducing GHG emissions or increasing GHG removal; and/or (2) provide climate change adaptation solutions. We will not be featuring companies that are simply “eco-friendly” or companies whose business and impact models aren’t linked.

AKUA
AKUA creates meat-alternative products from the most sustainable source of food on earth: ocean-farmed kelp. Kelp sequesters carbon and nitrogen 5 - 20x more effectively than land-based plants, and grows abundantly without freshwater, dry land, or fertilizer—making kelp farming a promising form of regenerative aquaculture in the fight against climate change. AKUA sources its kelp from majority women-owned ocean farms in Maine. The company is currently raising funds via Republic to launch its Kelp Burger this spring, which hundreds of customers have described as, "the best vegan burger they've ever had.” AKUA was listed as one of Time Magazine’s Best Inventions of 2019, and was also named one of Fast Company's World Changing Ideas for Food in 2020. AKUA's Kelp Jerky is now in 40+ stores nationwide, including iconic luxury supermarket Erewhon and online retailers like Amazon and Thrive Market.

Mycocycle
Mycocycle utilizes mycoremediation (a bioremediation process using fungi-based technology) to transform waste streams into value streams. Their patent-pending technology sequesters toxic heavy metals, and removes carcinogens and other chemicals of concern from materials containing asphalt, bitumen, and petrochemical derivatives. This process produces a non-toxic, durable, and versatile material that could serve as a replacement for plastic, as this biomaterial is moldable, lightweight, has insulative properties, and also offers water and fire resistance. Mycocycle is an early-stage, pre-revenue startup that has lab-based proof of concept on multiple treatment methodologies. Most recently, Mycocycle won the 2020 Cleantech Open Resiliency Challenge and was recognized as a finalist for FastCompany's 2020 World Changing Ideas Awards.
